FSNE 2008 Newspaper CompetitionCall for entriesDEADLINE: Friday, Feb. 29, 2008Jan. 3, 2008
Florida Editors: It’s time again to prepare entries for the annual Florida Society of Newspaper Editors contest. Please review the enclosed category list and rules. Deadline: Friday, Feb. 29, 2008. Winners: Announced at the June convention in Orlando. What’s New This Year:New Circulation Divisions: Under 60K circulation, 60K to 125K, and over 125K. Entry fees: A flat $30 for all entries regardless of division. Payments: Accepted by credit card this year, to skip the hassle of cutting checks. We strongly encourage use of Visa, MasterCard or Discover, because the card fees are lower than American Express. (AMEX will be accepted, however.) We also request a single charge to cover all entries, rather than multiple transactions, again to limit the card fees charged to FSNE. Payment by check is still available for those who prefer. New Print Category: Freedom of Information, to recognize aggressive use of public-records laws. More Online Categories: Six categories this year, including blogs and video. More Spanish-language Categories: Seven categories this year, including Sports and Feature Writing and Outstanding Entertainment Section. Innovations: Separate categories for Print and Online Innovation this year, to highlight the best of both platforms. Photos and Design: Submitted on disk this year and judged online, to eliminate expenses of making prints and preserving tearsheets. Judges will be out-of-state “visual experts,” separate from the “word judges.” Naming the files correctly is critical; please see the rules for photos and graphics. Gold Medal: Online components, including material not published in print, may be included this year as supplemental material for judges to consider in the four main categories of Daily Deadline, Features, Investigate and Explanatory. If you have any questions, email the contest chairs, below. Enter early, enter often! Good luck to everyone!
