FSNE Multimedia Scholarship

In partnership with the Knight Foundation, The Florida Society of Newspaper Editors is sponsoring a $3,000 scholarship -- $1,500 per semester -- for qualified multicultural students in accredited journalism and mass communications programs at Florida colleges and universities who receive and complete a paid multimedia internship at a Florida newspaper.

The purpose is to encourage minority students to seek careers in the fast growing field of multimedia or multiplatform journalism, which includes combinations of print, online, video and audio journalism.

Students should pursue internships through the normal application process with Florida newspapers. The internships can take place anytime during the 2007 calendar year. Applicants should mention their interest in multimedia opportunities to the newspapers and indicate their intention to apply for the FSNE scholarship. FSNE will work closely with newspaper internship coordinators on the multimedia programs. Preference will be given to students between their junior and senior year, but others are welcome to apply.

After acceptance as interns, students should apply by May 1 for the FSNE scholarship. Designees will be notified by June 1.

Applicants must be multicultural, full-time students, majoring in journalism or mass communications at an accredited program at a four-year college or university in Florida. The designee must successfully complete the internship to receive the scholarship money.

Applicants must have a minimum, cumulative 2.5 grade point average to be eligible for the scholarship program. Applicants must write a 300-word, double-spaced autobiographical essay explaining why they want to pursue a career in journalism and provide a standard resume, references and clips or examples of relevant classroom work.

Applicants should submit a resume, autobiographical essay and any other pertinent information to:
