The 2010 FPA/FSNE convention program is streamlined and focuses on key professional and citizen issues. It takes place June 17-18 at the The Ritz-Carlton in Sarasota. We strongly encourage our academic partners to join us at a special $50- a-day rate.
The Thursday afternoon session has town hall sessions for gubernatorial and U.S. Senate candidates. All have been invited and most are expected to appear.
We have two workshops Friday morning and one Friday afternoon.
9 a.m. — News Partnerships
Moderated by Anders Gyllenhaal, executive editor of The Miami Herald, this panel will explore how traditional news organizations are working with freelancers, partnering with academic institutions and pursuing pro-am models to make smaller staffs play bigger in digital and print. Panelists include Amy Hollyfield, government and politics editor of the St. Pete Times and a leader in the Miami Herald-St. Pete Times partnership and the Politifact team, and Stephen Comfort of FWIX, a local news web aggregation partner working with the New York Times and other news organizations.
10:15 a.m. — Innovation
Where do we go from here? Led by Bill Mitchell of the Poynter Institute, who oversees the Newspay blog, this panel will explore new trends in creating and funding journalism. Panelists include Mark Briggs, author of Journalism 2.0 and Newspaper in a Box, Tom Rosenstiel, founder of the Pew Project for Excellence in Journalism, and Bruce Hartmann, vice president of Scripps Howard print and interactive sales.
