Tampa Bay Times: Food Editor

Posted 11/17/2014

A passion for food. Strong writing and editing skills. Knowledge of and excitement about social media and multimedia tools is a must.

These are three qualities we are looking for in a new Food Editor to help lead the Times through the next era of food coverage in the award-winning Taste section and on tampabay.com.

The Food Editor will guide coverage of dining out, preparing food, planning for holidays and specialty meals, where and how we get our food, options on wine, beer and spirits … and more. The editor will develop and write stories for Taste and tampabay.com, and assign and edit staff and correspondents; oversee production of the print section and the online presentation on the Food & Dining and Cooking pages; and coordinate Janet Keeler’s #CookClub coverage.

We will depend on a web-savvy editor to help lead our digital innovation around the subjects of food and dining to actively guide our audience and promote our excellent content on Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest and elsewhere. Moreover, the food editor is a personality and trusted resource to our readers, who often seek engagement on a topic close to their hearts and homes – what we eat. Personal communication with our audience is important, from phone conversations to online chats to speeches in the community.

Interested applicants should send a proposal by Dec. 31. Please be specific about your professional strengths, experience and expertise with social media and multimedia, a strategic plan and ideas for content.

Send proposal to:

Tampa Bay Times is hiring designers

Posted 11/17/2014

The Tampa Bay Times, the largest-circulation paper in the Southeast, is looking for a top-notch, creative, confident and collaborative page designer. We are looking for someone who can “do it all,” — 1A, Sports, Features, digital — to join our team of award-winning designers, photographers and editors.

Top candidates will be those who like to be busy. Designers who run toward — rather than away from— challenges. Those who are always up to learn more.

Recent college graduates or designers with two or three years of experience are encouraged to apply.

What you need to know: InDesign, Photoshop

What we’d like you to know: basic HTML with a good understanding of CSS styling

And it couldn’t hurt to know: Illustrator, DTI pagination system

Please send resumes and links to your work to Paul Alexander, presentation editor, at palexander@tampabay.com.
